2/18-21/2021 We Interrupt Our Regularly Scheduled Programming....
Two nights in lovely Cape Charles city marina to start a long cruise, then maybe catch a good weather window to sail south in the Atlantic Ocean. Well, that was the plan. The weather is in no way cooperating. The forecast nice weather in the Atlantic Ocean has transformed into an icy gale as the historic storm crashing across the US reaches the ocean. We are most definitely NOT going out into that! Our alternative path south via the more sheltered Intra Coastal Waterway (ICW) is blocked by needing to cross 24 miles of Chesapeake Bay which is currently also in a full rage.
Even though we had hoped to be steadily moving south in into warmer days, we are content to sit tied to this happy dock riding out the storm while the wind rattles in the rigging overhead and a very cold rain falls. This is a great opportunity to step a little further into cruising mode, where above all else we focus on safely enjoying the moment we find ourselves in. We remind ourselves "We're not in a hurry". Electrical power provided by the dock powers our heater, which is keeping us toasty warm, which is another great reason to stay right here; the next few overnight spots will not have electricity.
We explored town in between rain squalls. The local shops are in off-season mode, but we did find some nice treats at the gourmet food store. It's just not a trip to Cape Charles without buying a pint of Muddy Hummock ice cream from the Brown Dog Creamery, no matter what the weather is! But we will save it in the freezer for warmer weather.
Not much else interesting to describe here other than to say we are enjoying the quiet hours reading, watching movies and Lois' sewing and a nap or two. There is good food and good company here, and Second Star is keeping us well sheltered.
There is bread dough mixed the night before that has not risen much at all in the unheated port hull while we slept in the heated starboard side. One excellent use for slow risen dough is pizza, so....
So our trip is not exciting yet, but it's all good!
